Klobuchar, Smith, Stauber Secure Significant Federal Funding for Two Harbors Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) and Representative Pete Stauber (R-MN) announced that they have secured significant federal funding to improve Two Harbors’ wastewater infrastructure.

“This federal funding will have a real impact in Two Harbors, enabling critical updates to the city’s wastewater treatment facility,” said Klobuchar. “I am proud to have worked with local leaders to secure these resources, and I look forward to continuing to partner with those in the community to address infrastructure needs.”

“It may not be the flashiest project, but updating the wastewater treatment facility is critically important for the Two Harbors community,” said Smith. “I am proud of our work to secure this funding, which will have a direct impact on the lives of Minnesotans.”

“It’s important that we invest in our rural communities and ensure they are not left behind. I have always said that rural Minnesota takes a back seat to no one. This is why I was proud to fight for this funding for Two Harbors to improve their water infrastructure,” said Stauber. “It was a pleasure working with Mayor Swanson and other community leaders on this project.”

Klobuchar, Smith, and Stauber secured $3.5 million to improve Two Harbors’ wastewater treatment facility. This includes constructing a new treatment system with aeration basins, final  clarifiers, biosolids treatment units, mercury filter backwash supply tank, operations and controls building, and associated electrical and controls equipment.

Klobuchar and Smith have been actively involved in securing this federal funding for projects benefiting communities across the state through a process called “Congressionally Directed Spending” (CDS). Throughout the CDS process, Klobuchar and Smith have considered project proposals and advocated for funding in close coordination with leaders from across the state.

Projects are expected to receive funding over the next several months.
