Sen. Tina Smith Named to Key Senate Committees Tuesday

After being named to several key Senate committees, U.S. Senator Tina Smith vowed to use the posts to work on the most-pressing issues facing Minnesotans.

Sen. Smith will start serving immediately on the following committees:

“It’s an honor to serve Minnesota in the U.S. Senate, and I’m excited that my new committee assignments will allow me to work on issues that touch every community in our state,” said Sen. Smith.“I’m eager to fight for the nurse in greater Minnesota who’s worried about cuts to the rural health budget and the public school teacher who wants to give students a world-class education; for the retirees in Duluth who are concerned about their pensions getting cut, the farmer in Willmar concerned about slumping commodity prices, the tribal leader who demands a response to the opioid crisis in Indian Country, and the local business looking to cut its monthly energy bill.

“I’m focused on getting things done for every Minnesotan whose life is affected by decisions made in Washington. I plan to be their voice and advocate. That’s what will guide me when I work with my Republican and Democratic colleagues, write legislation, debate the toughest issues, and question witnesses and nominees.”
