Tour Requests

Planning a trip to Washington, D.C? Senator Smith’s office is happy to help you arrange tours during your visit. Below is information about requesting specific tours, as well as links to some of the most popular area attractions. All of the tours described below are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

As always, Sen. Smith’s staff is happy to answer any additional questions you may have when planning your visit, just call (202) 224-5641. She also invites you to stop by her office for a visit while you are in town. Her office is located in room 720 of the Hart Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.

Please download and use the below form to request tours of the U.S. Capitol, White House, and/or FBI. Completed forms may be sent to tours@smith.senate.gov.

United States Capitol

The guides at the Capitol Visitors Center offer group tours of the U.S. Capitol Monday-Saturday between 8:50am-3:20pm. These tours can be arranged up to six months in advance at www.visitthecapitol.gov. Capitol tours typically last around an hour.

Sen. Smith’s office also provides staff-led tours of the Capitol. These tours are offered on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:00am. If you are interested in a staff-led tour, please use the tour request form as there is limited space. We are able to accept Capitol tour requests for up to two months in advance. These tours are best for individuals, families, and small groups. If you are traveling with a group of ten or more people, we recommend you make a reservation through the Capitol Visitors Center. Both tours are fully accessible to people with disabilities.

White House

Sen. Smith’s office is also pleased to help Minnesotans request tours of the White House. White House tours are self-guided and take place Tuesday through Saturday between 7:30am and 12:30pm. Please note that the White House uses a lottery system for ticket distribution, so Sen. Smith cannot guarantee tours will be granted. If you would like a tour of the White House, please indicate your interest on the tour request form.

There are several requirements that must be met for White House tours, including security checks and advance reservations. Due to the limited availability of White House tours, please be sure to contact Sen. Smith’s office AT LEAST ONE MONTH PRIOR to your planned arrival in Washington, as the White House stops accepting requests after this time. The White House accepts tour requests no earlier than three months in advance.

Please note, the White House tour schedules are entirely dependent on the President and the First Lady’s schedule. As such, tours will sometimes be cancelled or rescheduled at the last minute.

FBI Experience

The FBI Experience is a self-guided tour at the FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Tours are offered Monday through Friday at 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:00pm, 1:30pm, and 3:00pm and last approximately 60-90 minutes. If you would like to request a tour of the FBI, please include this information on the tour request form. Visits to the FBI Experience must be scheduled no later than THREE WEEKS IN ADVANCE. Please be advised, you will be asked to provide your Personally Identifiable Information when scheduling a tour.

Additional Tours

Other popular tours include the Supreme Court, Pentagon, Library of Congress, and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. These tours do not need to be set up through our office.

Staff-led tours of the U.S. Capitol are offered on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:00am. Tour requests can be made up to 2 months in advance.

White House Tours are offered Tuesday through Saturday between 7:30am and 12:30pm and are decided using a lottery system. Tours can be requested up to 3 months in advance and no later than one month in advance. The White House stops accepting tour requests one month prior to the requested date. Tours require advanced reservation and security checks. Please be aware that White House tour schedules are dependent on the President and First Lady’s schedule. Therefore, your tour may be cancelled or rescheduled at any time. 

FBI tours are offered Monday through Friday and last approximately 60-90 minutes. FBI tours also require advanced reservation and security checks.
